Reviews run for a minimum of one week. The outcome of the review is decided on this date. This is the last day to make comments or ask questions about this review.
The Catena-X alliance sees itself as an extensible ecosystem in which automotive manufacturers and suppliers, dealer associations and equipment suppliers, including the providers of applications, platforms and infrastructure, can all participate equally. The purpose of Catena-X is to create a uniform standard for information and data-sharing throughout the entire automotive value chain.
Eclipse Tractus-X aims at the development of systems in support of the Catena-X network, with focus on quality management, logistics, maintenance, supply chain management and sustainability.
In the initial proof-of-concept phase, Eclipse Tractus-X explores possible implementation options for the defined application areas which have been jointly defined. With the help of a networked data infrastructure, these application areas can significantly help to boost productivity and improve sustainability along future value chains. Applications supporting production and development are planned for future phases.
The data network will create an important starting point for the industry to respond more efficiently to the challenges of digital transformation and to make better use of the opportunities offered by digitalisation.
The companies involved want to increase the automotive industry’s competitiveness, improve efficiency through industry-specific cooperation and accelerate company processes through standardization and access to information and data. A special focus is also on SMEs, whose active participation is of central importance for the network’s success. That is why Catena-X has been conceived from the outset as an open network with solutions ready for SMEs, where these companies will be able to participate quickly and with little IT infrastructure investment. Tractus-X is meant to be the PoC project of the Catena-X alliance focusing on parts traceability.
The Eclipse Foundation provides a professional environment (governance, licensing, intellectual property management) for the future development of Eclipse Catena-X. These advantages facilitate the usage of an open source, extensible ecosystem in which automotive manufacturers and suppliers, dealer associations and equipment suppliers, including the providers of applications, platforms and infrastructure, can all participate equally.
Since this is a PoC project we do not yet have pre-existing code.
For this project we use Tractus-X instead of Catena-X as a name because the alliance wants to keep its name as a trademark and this project is the first of a series of further projects of the Catena-X alliance. Tractus-X is not yet registered according to https://register.dpma.de/DPMAregister/marke/basis.kopf.form.
Tractus-X and its involved parties intend to move to Eclipse as soon as possible. We hope to have the initial commit accomplished by 04/2021.
Catena-X discusses to create a Collaborative Working Group in the Eclipse community in order to coordinate the building of an extensible ecosystem in which automotive manufacturers and suppliers, dealer associations and equipment suppliers, including the providers of applications, platforms and infrastructure, can all participate equally.
With the International Data Spaces (IDS) standard for data sovereignty, which also lays the foundation for the European cloud data infrastructure GAIA-X, the companies involved have already agreed on essential infrastructure foundations for project implementation. This is why many involved parties plan to contribute to other relevant FOSS projects such as Sovereign Cloud Stack.
Currently, there is no other comparable toolsuite available which provides a similar set of functionalities.
