Role Type
Criteria

I would like to nominate Professor David Harris of Harvey Mudd University as a committer on CORE-V Cores.

David Harris is the Harvey S. Mudd Professor of Engineering at Harvey Mudd College, where he has taught since 1999. He is the author of six textbooks in the field of digital systems, including Digital Design and Computer Architecture (RISC-V, ARM, and MIPS editions), CMOS VLSI Design, Skew-Tolerant Circuit Design, and Logical Effort. He is presently coauthoring a textbook on RISC-V System-on-Chip Design, which will accompany the CORE-V-WALLY code. David co-founded One Hot Logic, an open-source chip tester company, in 2000, and supervised research on open-source floating-point hardware in the early 2000s. He has developed extensive teaching materials related to his textbooks, all of which are openly available on his web site, or as a free Massive Open Online Course through EdX.

David is among the key contributors to a project called RISCV-Wally that will shortly be brought in to OpenHW and Eclipse as a component of CORE-V Cores. This has been discussed in the OpenHW TWG meeting and the formal proposal will take place on Jan 23, 2023.

Wally is an RISC-V Core that is designed as a cornerstone of university courses on processor architecture, developed by David and Professor James Stine of OKU.
In the past year, David has averaged over 100 commits per month to RISCV-Wally, leading this project among 18 fellow contributors. He has also opened issues in riscv-software-src/riscof and riscv-non-isa/riscv-arch-test and pull requests to https://github.com/embench/embench-iot
David has followed and understood the Eclipse committer training videos and materials and understands that CORE-V Wally will be curated according to the Eclipse Development Process.

I am pleased to recommend David for the role of Committer on the CORE-V Cores project
