EcoreTools, the graphical modeler for Ecore, has been completely re-implemented based on Sirius and provides a nicer graphical design, support for documenting your model, specifying domain constraints and modeling Generic Types.
Please note that migrating the diagrams from EcoreTools 1.x to EcoreTools 2 is unlikely to be supported but anybody wanting to add this support is welcome to and will have proper assistance.
The project leadership certifies that the APIs in this release are "Eclipse Quality".
EcoreTools 2.0 is a complete re-implementation of the Ecore Diagraming capabilities based on the Sirius project. As such pretty much every aspect of the tooling and of the code did change in this timeframe, the actual modeler is defined in the ./org.eclipse.emf.ecoretools.design/description/ecore.odesign model which is getting interpreted by the Sirius runtime.
With the 2.0 version also came a new dependency to the EEF project in Eclipse to provide embedded editing wizards and rich property views.
EcoreTools is built using Tycho/CBI on the Sirius HIPP when the SCM polling sees a change from the last build. The results are automatically published in P2 repository available for consumption.
Gerrit is used for almost all contributions, with a corresponding validation job on the Sirius HIPP.
The documentation has been completely rewritten to describe the new features available with the 2.0 release.
A website has been created for EcoreTools with a decent number of visits which is constantly growing.
The 1.x code and bundles are still built and provided for the community in the 2.0 release but only in the EcoreTools update site, not in the Luna one. This will be completely removed for the Mars release.
Gerrit is enabled to accept external patches; we use standard build technology (Tycho/CBI).
Several talks have been given, notably at EclipseCon Europe 2013 ( EcoreTools 2.0: The Making-Of ) and EclipseCon North America 2014 (EcoreTools 2.0: The Luna Revival) .
So far the feedback from the community has been enthousiastic with this 2.0 version. The Eclipse Forum is more active and recently opened bugzillas have been taken care of.
