The OSPO Alliance was launched in June 2021 by European non profit organisations — OW2, Eclipse Foundation, OpenForum Europe, and Foundation for Public Code — and concerned individuals to promote an approach to excellence in open source software management. Together we created the OSPO.Zone — an open experience-sharing platform to facilitate discovery of tools and best practices and help define the state of the art in this domain.
This project manages the OSPO.Zone website and related resources, including the content to help discover, understand, and finally implement open source best practices. The Good Governance Initiative is referenced here, but is out of scope. It is hosted by OW2 at https://www.ow2.org/view/OSS_Governance/.
Eclipse Plato is the project where the community collaborates to manage the OSPO.Zone website and the associated body of knowledge. The project uses Hugo and markdown to lower the barrier to entry for new contributors.
We leverage the framework of the Eclipse Foundation website to stay up to date with the Privacy Policy and the Code of Conduct.
We selected the project name Plato as this is the place where we will write down descriptions of the best practices in open source, in the same way than Plato wrote down the lessons learnt from Socrates.
The project will produce regular releases of the resources assembled by the OSPO Alliance.
There are no legal issues with this content.
We want to apply the Eclipse Foundation Development Process to manage the project in an open and transparent manner.
- The current website focuses on the content developed by OW2 Good Governance Initiative.
- Coming soon, there will be content to demystify open source and some training material to help the organizations tackle the challenges of open source.
- July 2021: move the source code of ospo.zone as an initial contribution.
- Starting summer 2021: grow the community and add more content
- Eclipse Foundation
- Foundation for Public Code
- Open Forum Europe
- OW2
- OSPO++
The initial contribution will be the initial ospo.zone website, created by Eclipse Foundation staff in collaboration with the founding members of the OSPO Alliance. As soon as the project is created, the code of the website will be made public to foster collaboration.
