Californium released a couple of extensions and bugfixes in the past year.
We're going to prepare for a new release 4.0 by removing the deprecations and lift-up the minimal supported java version (currently the idea is java 1.8).
The progress is some slower than in the past, that's caused by my personal "ramp down of efforts". The project is still able answer and work on smaller issues.
