Deliverables: 
  • A replacement for the OpenJDK version 8 Virtual Machine and partial replacement of the .class library
  • Performance optimizations for memory footprint and startup time
Compatibility: 

This is the first release.

The aim is to provide a fully featured VM compatible with the Java Platform, Standard Edition for version 8.

OpenJ9 can be built using gcc 4.8.5 (xlc 13.1.3 on AIX) on any typical Linux distro (RHEL, Ubuntu, Fedora, CentOS, SLES, etc) having the prerequisite packages.
