Project:
Eclipse Marketplace Client™
Release:

1.8.0

Description:

This release is the preparation for a new way of installing eclipse plugins via the marketplace website (or any other external website or tool). Additionally to the existing possibility to drag special links onto the MPC components, we now also added the possibility to install an URL protocol handler for the URI scheme "eclipse+mpc://". That way, eclipse plugins can be installed by simply clicking on a link on the marketplace website. Note that the marketplace website still needs to be adapted to support this new feature. Also a mechanism is needed that supports both the old drag and drop for older eclipse installations and the new mechanism.

API Certification:

The project leadership certifies that the APIs in this release are "Eclipse Quality".

Architectural Issues:

There are no major architectural changes in this release.

Security Issues:

No known security issues.

Non-Code Aspects:
Documentation

User and contributor documentation is available on the wiki and in Eclipse help.

The structure of the URIs send to the URL protocol handler to install eclipse plugins is documented in the wiki.

Localization and Externalization
  • The code base is fully externalized
  • Localization is available through Babel
Usability Details:

There have been no substantial UI changes compared to the previous release.

End of Life:

No features are retired in this release.

Standards:

No standards are used or implemented by the Marketplace Client project.

Communities:

Input for this release cycle was based on direct feedback from the user and plug-in provider communities especially from bugzilla as well as from personal contact throughout the year. The communities were engaged in the release planning process through the mpc-dev mailing list and bugzilla as well.

This release is part of Eclipse IDE 2019-09.
