Release

4.5.0

Description

Eclipse EPP 4.5 is providing the download packages for the Mars Simultaneous Release and the p2 metadata that is used by the Oomph-based Eclipse installer. It is based on Eclipse Platform 4.5.0.

In addition to that, EPP is the new home for the Automated Error Reporting Logging component that helps Eclipse development teams to get notified about errors that occur at runtime in any Eclipse IDE. The new EPP Logging component is included in all download packages.

API Certification

The project leadership certifies that the APIs in this release are "Eclipse Quality".

Architectural Issues

No major known issues in the release.

The build system is based on Tycho and CBI; Windows executables and Mac OS X are signed in package downloads.

The packages are being distributed based on Eclipse Platform version 4.5.

Security Issues

No known issues in the release.

Non-Code Aspects

The Automated Error Reporter Logging component is part of all packages. It enables Eclipse users to submit all errors logged in their Eclipse instance to eclipse.org and - after submission - analyzes the contents of the error report to identify relevant projects and informs committers about new issues arrived.

Oomph Tools that help to manage preferences, project/workspace settings, and target platforms have been integrated into all packages.

The Eclipse Standard package has been renamed to Eclipse IDE for Eclipse Committers.

Usability Details

No usability issues.

End of Life

There is no build for Mac OS-X, 32-Bit, Cocoa any more; only the 64-bit version of Mac OS-X is supported and available for download.

Upgrades from earlier versions such as EPP 4.4.x (Luna) are not possible on Mac OS-X because of the change in the directory layout.

A CVS source code repository client was part of most packages up to EPP 4.4; after its removal (bug 438297) from most of the packages it is a separate installable unit that can be installed from the Mars Simultaneous Release Repository.

Standards

The EPP packages require Java 1.7. All packages are based on Eclipse 4.5.
