Scope
When the Eclipse Remote Application Platform™ project started years ago, its main objective was to provide a framework to make RCP applications available on the web. Over the years, the focus of the project has shifted to a more general platform for applications that run on a remote server. With the introduction of a new open protocol, RAP now supports alternative client implementations which are not necessarily Ajax-based. Also RAP applications are not limited to RCP APIs. A lot of existing RAP applications use only SWT and JFace as a way to create lightweight web applications.
