Election for Henry Zongaro as Committer on Eclipse OMR

Henry Zongaro is an active contributor to the Eclipse OMR project in many ways. He is articulate in the design and operation of many optimizations in the common optimizer and the theory behind them. Henry has contributed 47 pull requests [1] to the project and has repeatedly demonstrated thoroughness and quality in the implementation of each of those commits.

One of Henry’s invaluable strengths is the thoroughness of his code and design reviews. He is able to explain complex topics clearly which is greatly valued by contributors seeking his review or simply his opinion on a design idea. Henry has formally reviewed 20 PRs [2] but has been indirectly involved in shaping many others. His reviews draw upon his deep experience with the common optimizer, Testarossa IL design and operation, as well as many years of experience with different compiler technologies, hardware platforms, optimizations, operating systems, programming language design, benchmarking, and performance analysis techniques. He often discovers unseen corner cases and design limitations, and articulates his observations through clear examples where appropriate. Henry’s review comments are provided in a timely fashion and always reflect professionalism and respect for contributors.

Henry also monitors and provides responses to questions asked on the Eclipse OMR Slack workspace. He participates in the OMR Architecture Meetings and offers thoughtful opinions and insights in the discussions.

All of his contributions to Eclipse OMR reflect the ideals of the project and a desire to continually improve it and see it consumed in more projects. For example, in his reviews he encourages documentation, development of test cases, and refactoring of the code where appropriate for technical debt reduction and to maintain the language-agnostic goals of the project.

I believe Henry is a deserving committer for the Eclipse OMR project.
